Job Brief

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Credit Controller to join our hotel. The Credit Controller will be responsible for managing the hotel’s accounts receivable, ensuring timely payments, and maintaining effective credit control processes. This role is critical to maintaining the financial health of the hotel by reducing outstanding debts and fostering positive relationships with clients.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Follow up on aging invoices through verbal and written communication to implement light collection procedures.
  • Verify and process credit applications, assessing applicants’ eligibility using tools such as Dun & Bradstreet reports and trade references.
  • Ensure all credits are processed and invoices generated before closing the monthly reporting period.
  • Prepare reports, including aging and monthly sales analysis.
  • Maintain the accounts receivable check log.
  • Participate in internal and external audits as required.
  • Post journal entries and reconcile accounts.
  • Conduct monthly balance sheet reconciliation and reporting.
  • Support month-end close processes.
  • Review guest ledger, advance deposit ledger, and A/R ledger weekly, providing reporting updates.
  • Correct posting errors and review accounts receivable aging for accuracy.
  • Work closely with other departments to resolve invoice and collection disputes.
  • Provide timely responses to customer requests for receipts, invoices, and other financial information.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships while promoting the company culture and values.
  • Ensure adherence to financial regulations and best practices for internal and external audits.
  • Identify and address advance deposit problems and opportunities during periodic reviews of group bookings.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Education: Minimum of B.Sc. or HND in Finance, Accounting, or related fields.
  • Certification: Professional certification from ICAN (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria) or ACA (Associate Chartered Accountant).
  • Experience: 3-7 years in a credit management environment, preferably within the hospitality industry.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Fully computer literate with proficiency in MS Excel and experience using software accounting packages (e.g., ACCPAC, SAGE, OPERA is an added advantage).
  • Solid knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations.
  • Excellent business acumen for problem-solving.
  • Confidence in dealing with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize a demanding workload.
  • Strong communication skills and self-motivation with integrity and honesty.
